The speculation surrounding the recent awards show was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
A Different Direction
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team could be crafting a more action-oriented experience rather than another tactical title. For now, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—qualities that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.
Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs that are viable with a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously flexible, allowing players to experiment both in story and combat. Most missions can be solved in a variety of manners, often in lateral fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, players can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
